Robert Shane Land Patent

Good Evening,

My paternal great grandfather, Robert Shane purchased land in Iowa in 1855, a Cash Entry transaction under the authority of the April 24, 1820 statute.  The Dubuque land office was his point of purchase for the 95.92 acres of Iowa farmland.  I’ve requested any additional information from the case file, but in the meantime here’s the text of the deed located in the Jones County Courthouse and the online records from the BLM GLO site:

Text of Deed:

A few things should be noted about the above extraction:

1.  This deed information was copied in the Jones County Iowa Courthouse on October 5, 1998 and is from book 75, page 17

2.  The certificate #22083 reads “…Whereas Robert Shane, of Delaware County, Iowa…..”   My notes indicate Robert’s residence as Dubuque County so this may be a recording error on my part.

3.  This property is located in Castle Grove Township, Jones County and appears to be right on the border of Jones and Delaware Counties.
