Brainerd will long remember the 1922 baseball team it presented, one which started Bullet Joe Bush on his way to major league fame with the Philadelphia Athletics. Back row–George Hess, John Mahlum, Bungo Towers, Bud Roderick, Herb Paine, Granny Loom, George (Swede) Erickson, Manager D.A. Peterson.

Note: Bullet Joe Bush was born Leslie Ambrose Bush on 11/27/1892 in Gull River, MN. He made his pitching debut 9/30/1912 and played his final game on 9/30/1928. Joe was a right handed pitcher and also batted right. More information on Bullet Joe Bush can be found at:
