This 1908 Brainerd High School football team went undefeated through eight games. Members of the squad were, left to right, top row, James B. (Jimmy) Templeton, Harry J. (Cussie) Carlson, George (Ox) Mahood, James H. (Happy) Alderman, Charles Horn. Second row–John (Moxie) Mahlum, John (Fatty) O’Connor, Coach Fred Sandborn, Roy Jeffries, Rowland (Rollie) Barron. Front row Conrad (Connie) Osdahl, Captain Quintus (Quinn) Parker, and Frank Cullen. Only four members of the squad and the coach are know to be dead. Two, Carlson and Alderman, still live in Brainerd. Templeton and O’Connor live in Minneapolis; Barron in Wadena; Parker in Merrifield and Cullen and Osdahl on the west coast. Mahood, Horn, Mahlum, Sandborn and Coach Jeffries are dead.

SOURCE: Brainerd Daily Dispatch Centennial-Progress Edition, page 10. This picture was found in a scrapbook owned by my Aunt Elsie Walker Everest. There is no indication as to the date of the picture. Note: Apparently the text is incorrect as the coach was Fred Sandborn, not Jeffries.
