Here’s some additional information about Chickamauga Battlefield which is located south of Chattanooga, Tennessee and just over the border into Georgia. The prize being fought for was Chattanooga and the rail center and gateway to the heart of the Confederacy.

Andrew Jackson Boss served in the 13th Michigan Infantry, Company K. At the Chickamauga Battlefield can be found a monument to the unit:

The monument reads: Michigan, To Her Thirteenth Regiment of Infantry commanded by Colonel Joshua B. Culver, Major Willard G. Eaton, Buell’s Brigade, Wood’s Division, Crittenden’s Corps.

Zilpha Shipman Boss

Zilpha Shipman Boss lived for many years after the death of her husband Andrew. In this picture you can still see the sadness in her eyes. I wonder if she’s sitting on the porch of the home Andrew had built for them all those years ago.
